2012 Global Go-To Think Tanks Ranking Report
Wednesday 18 January 2012 — 3:15 to 4:30 PM
Conference Room 3, North Lawn Building
The United Nations University is pleased to host the launch of the "2012 Global Go-To Think Tank Index," with Dr. James G., McGann of the University of Pennsylvania. The report focuses on the rise of think tanks in G20 and BRIC countries. The report's value "lies in its ability to highlight the important contributions that think tanks make to governments and civil societies around the world," the speaker says. He emphasizes the role of think tanks in long under-represented regions, such as the Middle East and North Africa, Africa and Latin America.
The annual report is the brainchild and result of Dr. McGann, and compiled using a three stage process of international peer and expert reviews by policymakers, journalists, government officials, donors, think tank executives and scholars from over 120 countries. It identifies influential organizations from over 180 countries, worldwide, and classifies them according to geographic location, budgets less than five million U.S. dollars, as well as "new think tanks," amongst other divisions.
The rank of the United Nations University as a global think tank will be released at this event.
